- A New Direction 08
When you first meet Arthur Croker the last thing you will remember is his real name. What you will remember is Big Dawg’s passion for the membership. Big Dawg’s career with United Airlines started in SFO in 1995. Since that time, he has been working between HNL and SFO due to furloughs and recalls. Big Dawg has faithfully served the members of the IAM as Educator, Shop Steward and Committee Chairman and is looking forward to serving the membership further, “From an early age my family taught me the value of unions and bringing people together.”
Big Dawg is active in his community and serves as an advocate for children with disabilities. He belongs to the group, Partners in Policy Making. Their purpose is to partner with state and local government to write policies that benefit children with disabilities and cut through the red tape. This is more than a passing interest for Big Dawg; as a parent of four wonderful children, three have Autism and one has ADHD/Triple X Syndrome.
Big Dawg believes that leadership must be present during both the good times and the bad. It is imperative that members hear the information from their elected representative rather than the company. He further said, “Accountability, viability and responsibility are vital for any leader.” Members need to take part in the decision making process, he explained, “The Union is only as strong as its membership and information is the key.”
Big Dawg is a college graduate in Business Management and is currently in law school to finish his law degree. He brings a wealth of experience and says, “I will represent our membership to the fullest. We need to mend the information system and bring change of leadership that will create stability for our members.” |
