Erik Stenberg has been with United Airlines for more than twenty-one years and is proud to say he's been in Chicago the entire time. He has served the membership as a Safety Representative, Shop Steward, Grievance Committee Chairman, delegate, as well as currently serving as President of Local Lodge 1487.

Erik became more heavily involved when he noticed the company was not respecting the membership or the negotiated contract. He commented, "I was frustrated with the company refusing to recognize our members as the ones responsible for the continuation of our carrier." Erik knows the importance of listening to the membership and guiding them to the proper resources, "It's not about telling someone what to think. Representation comes down to communication."

While Erik believes that representation is vital he also recognizes that organizing and politics determine a Union's strength and ability to help the members. He added, "If you put less importance on any of them it affects the other two and the union as a whole." Erik, along with the New Direction team, sees the importance of representing the membership of District 141 to the fullest.
