John Medeiros
Assistant General Chair (AGC)
Four-Year Term - A New Direction 08
John Medeiros has been in the airline industry for more than three decades. He was at Eastern Airlines for more than ten years and has been at United Airlines in BOS for the last eighteen years. John has served his membership as a steward, Committee member and Committee Chair.
John has seen the necessity of a union to bring about equality and fairness in the workplace. He explains, "There have been too many advantages given to the large corporations and their executive boards, mostly through laws enacted during anti-labor administrations. We must keep that in check through our activism."
John has been committed to serving the membership for more than thirty years. He has lived and experienced firsthand the frustrations in the workplace. John has spoken out against the heavy-handed treatment of employers against the membership. "This is my passion; my heart is completely in this work. I did not begin my working life with the thought of being a union representative," he continued, "It did not take long for me to step up and take on this endeavor."
John knows the facets of a strong union are representing, organizing and politics. He added, "Like a three legged stool, it will not support the weight or demand put upon it without all three parts." Representation provides the defense of contract agreements; organizing as an educational tool along with increasing membership for a larger voice; and politics is the means of getting the workers concerns known to Congress. John, along with others in A New Direction 08, is ready to use his years of experience to assist the membership with experience and heart. |
