Michael Crowell has seen quite a bit in the twenty-one years he has been with US Airways. He started in CLT, but due to furloughs in 1993, he transferred to JAX. He then moved closer to home at CHS and back home to CLT in 1999. Mike is not the kind of person who can stand idly by while his peers are being mistreated. He commented, "Standing up to management and defending people who find the task difficult and daunting is what drives me."

That drive was in place prior to the IAM representing the members at US Airways. Mike was an Employee Representative and gave the unrepresented a taste of what being in a union would be like. Once the IAM was on site, Mike has served as Shop Steward, Chief Steward as well as Committee Chair. He also understands the fine details of the health and safety of the membership by serving on the Worker's Comp, FMLA and Ergonomics committees.

Mike believes strongly in education and communication, "Increased membership participation can only be achieved through communication. The membership will see that this Union is theirs and realize that together—we will make a difference."

As a political activist, Mike understands the importance of representing, organizing and politics, "The Union is the only vehicle that the worker has to stabilize or better their work environment." He knows that through organizing and representation is the only way the working class can truly have a collective influence and voice in our government.

Mike, along with the New Direction team, is ready to represent the membership and make a positive difference in the lives of the working families throughout District 141.
